Prayer is always the most difficult subject within "Christian living" to write about. It's certainly the most convicting topic for me to think through because I'm so bad at doing it faithfully. There are many Christians who would agree that prayer is a struggle for them, but I can't help but think that I struggle more. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak indeed.
When we consider what prayer is, we have to start with faith. A failure to pray as we should is a failure to believe as we should. Consider: What sense does it make to pray? What difference does it make? Why spend time articulating concerns and desires to the God who knows them all before we ask?
It's an exercise of faith.
Thus, when we fail to pray as we should, it is prime evidence that we are failing to believe as we should. If we're not living life prayerfully, we're not living life faithfully. When we live our lives apart from prayer, we live our lives apart from God. When we're silent toward our Maker, we're bound to our flesh. When we're not walking by faith, we're walking by sight.
So, for those of you like me who struggle with prayer, let's confess that we struggle with faith. And let's see the solution to our struggle as not praying more, but believing more. In more faith, we will find more prayer.
