God's Kind Sovereignty

This past Sunday, I preached about the importance of going to the feet of Jesus with the cares and concerns of this life. I briefly stated that our prayer lives reveal how we are doing with this. Scripture says:

Since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:14-16)

I'll be the first to admit that my prayer life does not reveal my dependence on Jesus as much as it should. I often slip into a mindset of self-sufficiency, autonomy, and reliance on man. It's very easy for me to live life like He isn't right here.

But what a comfort it is to know that "He Himself has said, 'I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you,'" (Hebrews 13:5). He is longsuffering, gentle, and kind, abounding in grace and mercy. He calls each one of us, softly and tenderly, imploring us to come to Him with each and every need right when we sense it. He is infinitely available to us.

Let us be motivated by His kind sovereignty this week. Go to the Lord's feet with your burdens today. Learn from Him there and worship, receiving mercy and grace to help in your time of need.
